4/30/98

On April 16, ConAgra, one of the nations largest meat processors with its Armour, Country Pride, and Butterball brands, agreed to pay $223,000 for employing illegal aliens in its former poultry plant in Kentucky. The company issued a statement that they regret ever doing so and intend never to employ the practice again. The company's managers who hired the individuals all pleaded guilty to the charges and are currently awaiting sentencing.

In a report by the investigative branch of Congress earlier this year, it was estimated that one out of every four workers in meat processing plants was an illegal alien. Apparently, these large numbers are due to the prospering economy which, with reduced unemployment, is making it more and more difficult to find American workers.
